Themes and lessons learnt from NHS investigations into matters relating to Jimmy Savile
Kate Lampard and Ed Marsden · work from 2013 · published 2015
What this was
Overview of the NHS investigations into access Jimmy Savile had to hospitals. It drew out common weaknesses in safeguarding, celebrity culture, volunteering, complaints and how unusual behaviour was excused.
Why it sits in the hub
It is the bridge between historical abuse and the safeguarding duties hospitals now hold. The same chair later leads the Lampard Inquiry into mental health deaths in Essex.
Findings
Finding 1
Status and celebrity opened doors that ordinary safeguarding rules should have closed.
Finding 2
Complaints and concerns were not joined up across sites.
